Richard and Jane Berry
Atlanta, Georgia
Director of African American Ministries
Eighteen years have passed since Richard and Jane Berry left the staff of the Navigators to pursue seminary and church planting. The experience gained from working with pastors, churches, and denominations gave them a first-hand understanding of the need for discipleship and leadership development in urban churches.
Richard and Jane served as the first African American staff in the early seventies. They spent 13 years in that capacity in military, collegiate, and community ministries.
The Navigators is committed to making a concerted effort to impact ethnic communities in the U.S. The Berrys will bring the resources and ministry legacy of the organization to urban churches in keeping with their life-long mission to make disciples.
Richard and Jane are life-long ministry partners, and bring a team ministry approach to the position.
Richard
has a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies, from Dallas
Theological Seminary, and a Master of Divinity from Luther Rice
Seminary. Prior to the Navigators, he served the Evangelical Covenant
Church as Director of Urban Church Planting in the Southeast. In this
role he recruited, coached, and consulted with urban pastors, church
planters and ministry leaders.
Jane serves in an associate role
where she assists in the development of the ministry while focusing on
mentoring and discipling women.
Jane is an advocate for ministry wives and women in leadership roles. She is a mentor and effective discipler of women. Jane addresses the issues and needs of women in ministry leadership in an honest, down-to-earth style. She encourages women to go beyond the superficial to a deeper commitment to God, His Word, His people, and His world. She has over 30 years experience in ministry, and is a professionally trained speaker and biblically trained teacher. Jane has a Bachelors of Arts degree in Biblical Studies from Luther Rice Seminary.
Through their ministry with the Navigators, Richard and Jane's mission is to dramatically impact urban churches, communities, and campuses for Christ. They work with existing staff to develop a national network of new staff and volunteers who are committed to evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development.
