Summer Staff Roles

Resident Camp Counselors

We're looking for college-aged students with the know-how to handle the Word of God accurately combined with real life experiences and a love for kids to serve with us as one of our Rez counselors. There's no better place to put into action the ministry skills you'll need to be an effective influence in people's lives. It helps to be a little nuts, too

Horse Camp Counselor
Spend time with God's long-maned creation and minister to kids as part of our Horse program. Use your skills to teach kids the basics of horsemanship as well as the more finesse tricks of the trade as their experience increases. In  addition to time with the campers, you'll be
responsible for horse and
tack care as well as some
facility upkeep of our barn,
riding ring, and round pen.

Crew Counselors
More of an extended discipleship program for high schoolers, our Crew programs require staff who know how to work hard as well as equip kids in their walks with God. Weekend activities include camp-outs, scaling Pike's Peak, and hanging out with some neat high school campers who have given up half or all of their summers to be part of the Crew.

Excursion Camp Counselors
We are looking for people who love God, like working with kids, and have a taste for adventure and hard physical work. Each staff member is required to make a two-summer commitment. The entire team trains together for over 21 days during our staff orientation. All staff will be required to obtain Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification.

You need to be in very good physical condition and some experience in one or more of the following activities is preferred (but not mandatory): mountain biking, backpacking, ropes course facilitation, rock climbing (outdoor), or mountain climbing. The training/orientation  period will be four weeks in length.

You will have the responsibility of writing the weekly schedule with your co-counselor (with approval by the program director). Excursion programs vary; some are facility-based multi-sport activities while others are backpacking-based. There are over a dozen different Excursion programs in all.

All Excursion staff will be trained in each aspect of the programs. Assignments are given weekly by program director based on program offerings and needs. There are typically two counselors on a program, one of whom is usually a returning counselor from a previous summer.

Trip Outfitter

The Trip Outfitter (TO) is the person who works behind the scenes of our Excursions. TOs will pack the food as well as maintain, clean, repair equipment, and provide logistical support for all Excursion camps. The TOs receive training in the wilderness programs (backpacking, rock climbing, etc.) and may occasionally have the opportunity to be a co-counselor. They are also called on to facilitate ropes courses for other camp programs (Rez, Service Crew). However, most of their time is spent at camp taking care of food orders, packaging, maintaining equipment, and cleaning. The TO is a vital position and requires someone who is highly organized, detail-minded, and task-oriented. As is all Excursion positions, a two-summer commitment is required.

Medical Staff

E.M.T.s, registered nurses, nurse practitioners,  doctors ... you name it, we need you!  With hundreds of kids attending our summer programs, chances of injury abound and so will you in chasing them all down! As part of our Medical Staff, you'll have ample opportunity to be a hand that fixes the hurts and heals the heart of every kind of kid you can imagine! You'll call Lakeview Lodge, our two-story infirmary, "home" as it was built with your duties in mind!
