The Core Objectives of NavFusion
A campus ministry group may be know for many things – relationships, fellowship, worship music, fun activities, service, outreach, study and more. NavFusion campuses vary wildly in many of these aspects. There are, however, certain key elements that you'll find at every campus:
- Introduce Students to Christ
- Apply the Word of Christ
- Enjoy Intimacy with Christ
- Follow the Spirit of Christ
- Grow as Disciples of Christ
- Glorify the Name of Christ
As you can see, Christ is the center. Our desire is to see each of these objectives achieved on every NavFusion campus around the country. But in other aspects, every campus looks different. Big meetings, small groups. Music, no music. Officially recognized by the college as The Navigators, informal association with the Navs, co-sponsored by a local church or another organization. One campus might focus primarily on the student who doesn't have a personal relationship with Christ. Others focus on the student who is following Christ. But all our campuses are open to both students.
Introduce Students to Christ
The world is swimming in need. Some would say drowning in need. Loneliness, physical pain, emotional wounds, homelessness, hunger, debt, poverty, alcohol and drug dependency. The fallout from crime, corruption, war, natural disaster and much more. The consequences of evil and sin. When Christ looked at the crowds and called them "harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd," (Matt 9:36) he undoubtedly had these very things in mind. People need physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Jesus came to bring all of these. Central to our focus is a commitment to introduce people to the one who is the way, the truth and the life, the wounded healer, Jesus Christ. (John 14:6)
Apply the Word of Christ
Every new car comes with a manual in the glove compartment. If a new owner wants to get the maximum trouble-free miles out of his car, he is wise to carefully follow the manual. The manufacturer knows the specifications of the car and is in a position to best explain how to care for the car. bGod has left us an owner's manual for life – the Bible. If we want the maximum trouble-free "miles" in our lives, we are wise to follow the "Owner's Manual" that the "Manufacturer" has provided for us. It's not enough to simply know about what should be done. A car's warranty is voided if certain maintenance items are not performed. The manual has to be followed. In the same way, it's not enough to know what the Bible says; we need to apply it to our lives and live it out.
Enjoy Intimacy with Christ
In his time, every American knew about Abraham Lincoln. Probably quite a bit about him. But who really knew him? Even among those who knew him in a professional capacity – who really knew him personally? Knowing about someone is not the same as knowing someone.
In the same way, most of the world's population knows something about Christ. But who really knows him? Maybe they know a great deal about how he lived personally, what he stood for and even his mission in coming to earth. But do they know him personally? Do they have a personal relationship with him? Some experience Christ as their Lord and Savior. But do they daily enjoy intimacy with him? Is the relationship fresh and focused? We were created to be in intimate communion with Christ. If we miss that, we miss the point of life.
Follow the Spirit of Christ
Christ gives his Spirit to everyone who believes in him. As a NASCAR crew chief communicates information and instructions to a driver, the Spirit in us communicates truth and guidance to us. Perhaps not with an audible voice, but he is able to communicate nonetheless. And as the driver is free to choose whether or not to follow those instructions, God gives us the liberty to follow or not follow the guidance of the Spirit. NavFusion ministries seek to follow the Spirit's guidance, and help others to do the same.
Grow as Disciples of Christ
Christ gave us the Great Commission – go and make disciples – and the Great Commandment – love one another. The Great Commandment is the horse, and the Great Commission is the saddle. Love is the horse we ride that carries the Gospel of Christ to the world. And as a saddle is used to direct a horse, the Great Commandment directs us on how to proceed: We are first to grow as disciples of Christ ourselves. Then we are to help others become his disciples also. (Matthew 29:19,20)
Glorify the Name of Christ
It's all about Christ. We need the Gospel of Christ every single day. Homeless people who come to a sumptuous Christmas dinner table set for them by a rescue mission have nothing to boast about. All they bring is their poverty and hunger. In the same way, when we come to God as people who are "poor in spirit" (Matthew 5:3), hungering to be released from the pain and bondage of many needs, we have nothing to boast about. We bring nothing that makes us worthy to be invited to a banquet. It is the ongoing work of Christ that makes us worthy. On the day of salvation. And on every day that follows. Whatever happens in and through us, He gets glory.
