THE GOD WHO WALKS WITH US - February 11

We live by faith, not by sight. - 2 Corinthians 5:7

Ludwig Nommensen was a Danish missionary to the Batak people on the island of Sumatra in Southeast Asia. After first arriving, a village chief gave him only two years to learn the customs of the people and to convince them that he had a message worth hearing. At the end of that period, he was asked how Christianity differed from the traditions of the Batak. "We know what is right," said the tribal leader, "for we too have laws that say we must not steal, or take our neighbors' wives, or tell lies." "That's true," the missionary answered quietly, "but my Master supplies the power needed to keep these laws." The chief was startled. "Can you really teach my people to live better?" he inquired. "No, I can't, but if they receive Jesus Christ, God will give them the strength to do what's right."

He was permitted to remain another six months and he preached the Gospel and taught the villagers how the Holy Spirit works in the lives of believers. At the end of that time, the chief said, "You may stay longer. Your religion is better than ours, for your God walks with men and gives them strength to do the good things He requires."

By faith, Jesus lives with us and gives us the power to live daily for Him.

Do you sometimes fall into the trap of not living by faith? Today in prayer, thank Christ that by faith in Him we can do all things.

"Faith is taking God at His word. Faith is not belief without evidence. It is belief on the very best of evidence—The Word of Him 'that cannot lie.'" - R.A. Torrey

God's Word: "Thomas said to him, 'My Lord and my God!' Then Jesus told him, 'Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.'" - John 20:28-29
