Tell Your Story
One of the most effective tools you have for
sharing your faith is the story of how Jesus gave you eternal life and
how He has enriched your life. Remember the woman in Samaria who met
Jesus at the well? When she shared the story of her encounter with
Jesus, many of the Samaritans believed in Him (see John 4:39). God will
use your story, too-if you share it!
Getting Started
1. Share the "before, how, and after" of your salvation. Include a few details of your life before salvation, how you took the step to become a Christian, and what your life has been like after your decision.
2. Make it personal. Don't preach! Say "I" and "me," not "you."
3. Keep it short. The essentials can be covered in three to five minutes.
4. Focus on Jesus. Highlight what He has done.
5. Avoid religious words and jargon. Connect with people who may not be familiar with Bible words like "sin." Try using "turned away from God" or "didn't obey God's laws."
6. Simplify. Reduce "clutter" by mentioning only a limited number of people and events relevant to your conversion.
7. Use a few strategic verses of Scripture to highlight how you trusted Jesus and what He has done for you.
Practice Makes Perfect
Now sketch out your own testimony. Invite a Christian friend out for a walk or cup of coffee to pose as an unsaved acquaintance. Have your friend critique you on how you share your story. Then invite a non-Christian friend out and more confidently tell the story of what Jesus has done for you!
