Extreme Makeover: Navigator Edition

This Sunday (April 27) the popular television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will feature a family with a Navigator connection. Pastor Gerald and Liesa Martinez from Albuquerque, New Mexico, will receive a new home courtesy of ABC.

Navigator Laura Jenkins says, “Gerald is the pastor of the church where Juntos has been meeting for the past three years.”

Juntos, which means together in Spanish, is a weekly kids’ club focusing on youth from vulnerable neighborhoods in southeast Albuquerque.  It is a cooperative effort between The Navigators and several local organizations and churches.

“Liesa was a Juntos teacher for two years and four of their five children volunteer or participate currently,” Laura says.

The Juntos team made a sign to hold up in the crowd during the show’s filming. “Look for our sign ‘Juntos Loves the Martinez Family,’ ” Laura says. “Not sure if we made it in, but maybe we did!”
